Growing and strengthening west Michigan's middle class

BlueGreen Alliance recognizes IBEW Local 275 for their work installing solar panels

COOPERSVILLE April 8, 2016– Members of IBEW Local 275 have been working on a green-energy project this winter, putting together a 3-megawatt solar installation for a local business. Their work was recently featured in a IBEW+logo_2012video from the BlueGreen Alliance, an organization that brings together labor unions and environmental groups to identify ways that today’s environmental challenges can create and maintain quality jobs and build a stronger, fairer economy.

“We currently have roughly 20 members employed at a three-megawatt solar project here in western Michigan, working with one of our local employers to ensure that we have a good strong green economy moving forward… building the solar projects we need to make that happen,” said Sean Egan, business manager for IBEW 275, in the video.

The BlueGreen Alliance video featuring the work of Local 275 is currently being featured nationally.

“This video is a testimony that solar is working in Michigan and helping to sustain good quality jobs,” said Sue Browne, BlueGreen Alliance regional program manager for Michigan and Wisconsin. “It highlights how members of the building trades are already doing work in this new, clean economy—from the electricians in the video to plumbers to construction workers. The jobs that are created and sustained in the clean economy should be quality, union jobs.”
