Growing and strengthening west Michigan's middle class

LANSING September 16, 2015– Last week the Michigan labor movement lost a hero. Lansing firefighter Dennis Rodeman — who was a member of IAFF Local 421 and a Marine veteran who served in Fallujah, Iraq — was killed by a hit-and-run driver while collecting donations for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Due to the overwhelming outpouring from the community, brother Rodeman’s funeral will take place at the Breslin Center in East Lansing later this morning.
So many of our union brothers and sisters have asked how they can help, and there is something we can do. The City of Lansing, the Lansing Fire Department, and IAFF Local 421 have joined together to raise funds for firefighter Rodeman’s family.
Funds collected will be deposited into a dedicated bank account set up by IAFF Local 421 for Rodeman’s pregnant wife and family.
Our military personnel and firefighters put their lives on the line every single day to keep us safe, and this is a truly horrible tragedy.
