Growing and strengthening west Michigan's middle class
GRAND RAPIDS July 8, 2015– Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 836 have been in contract negotiations with the Interurban Transit Partnership (The Rapid) for over six months now, with no resolution in sight.
A fact-finder was brought in earlier this year to help resolve the conflict. The fact finder, Thomas L. Gravelle, held a hearing in May and released his recommendation last month, which the Union is now rejecting, in part.
Union officials have requested the publication of the fact finding report and the Union’s rejection/acceptance of the report as part of their on-going dispute with the ITP. Union officials hope that the two parties can return to the bargaining table and that a resolution will soon be found, with a fair contract that provides its members with wages and benefits comparable to those received by other employees in the transit industry.
