KICLC to host Grand Rapids mayoral candidate forum

GRAND RAPIDS June 29, 2015– The Kent-Ionia Labor Council is hosting a candidates forum next Thursday, July 9 at 6pm, featuring the four candidates who are running to serve as Grand Rapids’ next mayor.womenlogo2

The forum is being organized by the KICLC Women’s Caucus, and is open to the public. It will focus on topics of special importance to the west Michigan labor community.

Although the August 4 election is considered a primary, it could end up deciding who the next Grand Rapids mayor will be. City charter states that if one of the candidates in a primary receives more than 50% of the vote, he or she will be considered the winner and there will be no general election in November. However, if no candidate receives a majority of the vote, the two candidates who received the most votes will face off again on November 3.
