Kent Ionia Labor collecting diapers for moms-in-need

GRAND RAPIDS February 22, 2015– Are you a person who believes babies deserve a clean, dry bottom? Then read on!

South East Community Oubaby-diapers-42099095treach Ministries (SECOM) in Grand Rapids is in desperate need of diapers for its clients (and their babies’ bottoms!)—specifically diaper sizes 3-6.

For many struggling moms, buying diapers often means sacrificing elsewhere. Diapers cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits (food stamps), so it becomes critical that ministries like SECOM have diapers readily available for their clients.

The Kent-Ionia Labor Council is hoping you can help out.

From now until March 12, we’re urging our affiliates and all of our supporters to collect diapers—sizes 3, 4, 5 and 6— to donate to moms-in-need. Then on Friday, March 13, we’ll be making a diaper delivery—hopefully a huge one!—to the people at SECOM.

As the cold weather rips us to the bone, how about doing something that’s sure to warm hearts (and little tushes)? This is a great project for local unions, community groups or individuals to contribute in any way they can. There are three ways you could help:

  1. If you’d like to coordinate a “diaper drive” at your workplace or union hall, get in touch with Steve Veldheer at the KICLC office by clicking here to get some materials and to arrange a pick-up.
  2. Or maybe you or your group would like to make a cash donation toward the purchase of diapers—that’s great too! (The KICLC has pledged a matching cash donation up to $200!) Contact Steve for details.
  3. Perhaps you’re just an individual with a generous heart and you’d like to donate some diapers on your own—get in touch with Steve and he’ll be happy to pick up your donation at your home or workplace.

So on Friday, March 13, we’ll make our diaper delivery to SECOM—are you ready to make this the biggest diaper drop ever?
